Four-Player Games on One Switch 2: Controllers, Modes, and Setup Compared

For four people on one Switch 2, check the local mode before counting controllers. Mario Kart World supports four-player one-console play; Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 edition has several four-player modes but also modes limited to one or two local players.

Start with the mode you want

Nintendo’s Mario Kart World support instructions separate Multiplayer on one console from wireless, online and LAN play. Local Multiplayer supports two to four people. The supported local configurations include one Joy-Con or Joy-Con 2 per person, a pair per person, and the corresponding Pro Controllers. A pair assigned to one player is still one player’s input.

For Jamboree, Nintendo’s mode table is the useful reference. Mario Party, Rhythm Kitchen and Toad’s Item Factory support up to four offline players. Paratroopa Flight School supports up to two. Koopathlon and Bowser Kaboom Squad list one offline player, even though their online modes support larger groups.

Your plan Equipment question Easy mistake
Four-player Mario Kart World Do you have four supported input configurations? Counting two Joy-Con pairs as four players when each pair is assigned together.
Jamboree TV mouse-control activities Do you have the Joy-Con 2 required for those features? Assuming an older controller gains mouse controls by pairing to Switch 2.
Camera-based minigames Is a compatible camera attached? Buying a camera for every mode when only selected features use it.

Make the count before shopping

Inventory individual controllers, not retail boxes: two Joy-Con 2 units, one original Switch Pro Controller and another supported single Joy-Con can cover four Mario Kart World players when assigned in supported single-controller configurations. Check charging arrangements as well; original Joy-Con do not attach to the Switch 2.

This arithmetic applies to the documented Mario Kart World mode. Do not carry it to every title or Jamboree activity. Features such as motion, mouse control or particular button layouts can narrow the options.

Prepare a first session

Install and update the exact game beforehand, pair each configuration, and have all four people join the intended mode before guests arrive. Check that the screen is readable from every seat. For a group that dislikes waiting, avoid assuming every racing mode keeps all four active: Nintendo explicitly notes eliminated players watch the remainder of a Knockout Tour. Choose a different mode if that would spoil the evening.
