Read a PS5 listing’s local player field separately from online players. A game with many online participants may still be single-player on one console. Then check the exact local mode and controllers.

Confirm the platform edition, local count, online count, network requirements and publisher mode description. A generic multiplayer label, Remote Play or streaming feature does not establish two-controller play on the console.

A documented example
PlayStation’s It Takes Two listing separates local and online counts, marks online play optional and confirms offline couch co-op. EA describes a game built for a pair. That combined evidence is stronger than borrowing the online count alone. The exact installation and license arrangement remains a separate question.
Make household access work
Sony’s Console Sharing and Offline Play guidance explains access to purchased downloaded games on the designated PS5. It does not add local multiplayer to a game that lacks it. Keep permission to launch and ability to play together as separate checks.
Install and update, connect both controllers and join the actual mode using the intended profiles or supported guest setup. Check whether both players retain progress or only the host does. A brief rehearsal can reveal the wrong edition, an unpaired controller or a missing download before guests arrive.
