Compare your computer with the publisher’s current requirements one field at a time. A familiar processor brand, a large RAM number or a “gaming laptop” label does not establish that the exact machine meets every requirement.
Collect the actual specification
- Operating-system edition, version and 64-bit requirement.
- Full CPU model, including suffixes.
- Full GPU model and dedicated video memory where applicable.
- Installed system RAM.
- Storage type and free capacity on the intended drive.
- Required graphics features, APIs, driver versions or other publisher-listed conditions.
Microsoft’s DirectX guidance explains how to open dxdiag and check the installed DirectX version on its System tab. Use the machine’s own information and the component manufacturer’s specification pages to resolve uncertain model names. Do not paste an entire diagnostic report publicly when a few relevant hardware fields answer the question.
Keep minimum, recommended and target presets separate
Epic’s Fortnite PC requirements provide separate minimum, recommended and Epic-quality specifications. At the date checked, the minimum memory figure is 8 GB, while the recommended and Epic-quality tables specify 16 GB or more. The higher tables also distinguish video-memory and storage requirements. One matching memory number does not establish that the rest of the computer matches.
Use a table for your own game: publisher requirement, your hardware, and result. Mark a field “matches the stated requirement,” “does not match” or “unresolved.” Do not convert every unresolved GPU comparison into a pass because the card’s name contains a larger number.
| Comparison | Useful evidence | Do not infer |
|---|---|---|
| Exact same CPU/GPU model | Manufacturer identity and publisher table | A laptop variant is identical to a desktop card with a similar name. |
| Different model | Relevant specifications and trustworthy game-specific benchmarks | Clock speed or release year alone establishes equivalent performance. |
| VRAM and RAM | Separate measured capacities | Shared system memory automatically substitutes for the publisher’s dedicated VRAM requirement. |
| Storage | Required type plus free capacity | Enough space on any drive satisfies a stated SSD requirement. |
Performance needs a defined target
A useful performance claim includes the game build, resolution, graphics preset, rendering mode and hardware tested. Without that evidence, this checklist can assess documented requirements but cannot promise a frame rate or smoothness. A recommended specification without a stated target should remain a recommended specification.
For handheld PCs or laptops, also check the operating system and the exact power or performance mode used in any benchmark. Compatibility with a device’s processor is not proof that its controls, display, launcher or anti-cheat work as expected on the installed software environment.
Decide what to do with an unresolved result
If only storage is short, investigate space management before replacing the computer. If a required hardware feature is missing, do not assume lowering the graphics preset will add it. If performance is the uncertainty, look for a supported demo or a benchmark that actually matches your intended settings. Keep the current publisher page with your comparison so a later update can be checked against the same fields.
