Choose Expedition Leaders for six different leader approaches to Arnak; choose The Missing Expedition when a solo or two-player cooperative campaign is the priority. Both are expansions for the Lost Ruins of Arnak base game. You can make this decision without buying both at once.

Start with the required box

You need Lost Ruins of Arnak, English base game for either purchase. If you are buying for someone else, check that they own that box. An expansion title beginning “Lost Ruins of Arnak” does not mean it supplies the complete base game.

Choose Expedition Leaders for different starting approaches

Its six leaders give players different abilities and resources. In plain terms, the players do not all approach the same game from an identical starting position. This is the relevant addition if your group wants to vary familiar Arnak decisions.

Allow time for each person to understand their chosen leader. It is reasonable to learn the complete base game first and then decide whether these different approaches are what you want. This comparison does not assign a tested difficulty score to the leaders or claim that any particular one is strongest.

Choose The Missing Expedition for its campaign

The campaign follows a six-chapter structure and supports solo play or cooperation between two players. The box also adds components for standard games, so its purpose is broader than the campaign alone. Keep those uses separate when discussing it with a larger group.

If three or four people specifically want to cooperate through the campaign together, the documented limit does not fit that plan. If one or two people want the campaign while the larger group wants extra standard-game material, the two supported uses may both be relevant.

Do the expansions work together?

CGE explicitly describes The Missing Expedition’s leaders as compatible with Expedition Leaders. The base game remains required. This research covers the English products identified here; it does not establish every combination of other languages or later editions.

Common buying questions

Must I buy Expedition Leaders before The Missing Expedition?

No. It is optional. The required purchase is the base game.

Should I buy an expansion with my first copy of Arnak?

The base box is playable alone. You can wait until you know whether extra leader abilities or a campaign is the addition you want.
