Identify what replaces other players

An automated rival adds procedures that create competition. A score challenge may leave you optimizing without an opponent. Cooperative solo play may ask you to control one role or several. Choose the decisions and administration you want rather than treating these as equivalent modes.

Solo question What to inspect
How many roles do you manage? Solo setup and turn sequence
How does opposition run? Automa, enemy deck or other procedure
What counts as success? Win conditions or score thresholds
Is another purchase required? Exact standalone and expansion statements

Two documented examples

Wingspan Asia includes a standalone one-player mode with a separate Automa rulebook. Horizons of Spirit Island is also listed for one, with cooperative defense against the game’s invading system. These illustrate different structures; they do not establish measured difficulty or a tested preference ranking.

Preview a full turn

Count both your choices and the steps executed only to run the opponent. Consider whether that management sounds enjoyable. Measure the setup with every required board, deck and reference aid; one person does not automatically mean a tiny footprint.

Look for a clear example or quick-start guide because you will handle rule checking yourself. For replay, ask what changes: setup, cards, goals, scenario or campaign state. Keep setup time and learning effort as unknown until a relevant observation supports them.
