Ask what the used copy actually contains: a playable disc or card, a Game-Key Card, a one-time code, or a mixture of those. A box photograph and a “Complete Edition” title are not proof that every originally advertised entitlement transfers to the next buyer.
Separate three delivery types
| What is being sold | What to verify | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Disc or game-data card | Exact platform, readable media, edition and required downloads | Possessing the media does not prove every patch or bonus is on it. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Card | Correct card, storage requirement and initial internet access | The card provides the key; the game data must be downloaded and the card remains required to play. |
| One-time download voucher | Unused status, account region and included product | A redeemed code can be tied to the previous account rather than transferred with the case. |
Nintendo’s Switch 2 FAQ says Game-Key Cards contain the key rather than game data, require an initial download on the system, and must be inserted to play. It also says a Nintendo Account is not required for that data download. This makes them different from a one-use account voucher; it does not remove a game’s own online-service requirements.
PlayStation’s voucher rules state that a code can be used only once and must match the account region. An insert still sitting in a case does not demonstrate that its code is unused. Ask the seller to describe the remaining entitlement without sending a usable code publicly.
Check the actual copy
- Request clear photographs of the label, media and regional product information.
- Confirm that your console model can read that format.
- Inspect or test the media where possible, including installation and a later section of play.
- List the bonus content separately from the base game.
- Check required downloads, available storage and continuing online services.
- Keep the seller’s description and the marketplace’s stated return conditions.
A successful boot is useful evidence, but not a complete inspection of every disc sector or campaign chapter. We do not diagnose media condition from a stock photograph, authenticate collectible cartridges remotely, or claim a cosmetic mark is harmless without testing.
Match add-ons to the copy you receive
PlayStation’s region guidance distinguishes disc-game licensing from add-on compatibility. If you expect to buy expansions later, identify the copy’s licensed territory before purchase. Apply the matching platform’s rules rather than assuming all modern games and add-ons are universally interchangeable.
Value the usable package
Compare the used copy’s usable content with a current equivalent offer. If the bonus code is already redeemed, value the base media and any physical extras you actually want. A missing manual may matter to a collector without changing the playable entitlement; a missing required data disc is a different problem.
For a friend group, also check the exact online mode before buying. A cheap older copy is poor value if the intended service has closed or the group uses a different edition. Complete the compatibility and access checks before treating a low asking price as a saving.
