Choose an arcade format by the controls’ final height, the players sharing them and the supporting furniture. A small cabinet can save storage space while still needing a stable table and clear room for hands and elbows.
Compare the installed height
A countertop machine adds its height to a desk, bar or shelf. Check where the screen and control panel end up for the intended seated or standing player. A tall cabinet has its own body, but a stool, riser or control-deck projection can change the usable footprint. Use assembled measurements rather than the carton.
| Question | Countertop format | Standing cabinet |
|---|---|---|
| Support | Stable furniture of suitable size and height | Level floor and any required anchoring |
| Controls | Panel width and number of actual control stations | Player spacing around the full control deck |
| Screen | Viewing angle at the chosen furniture height | Viewing angle from the intended standing or seated position |
| Power | Battery or adapter options for the exact model | Required outlet and cable route |
| Storage | Complete body plus handles and cables | Room to leave it installed or a documented moving plan |
Use exact examples without merging variants
Arcade 1 Up’s seven-inch Pac-Man Countercade lists an 8.70-by-9.40-by-13.11-inch body and battery or micro-USB power. Its Class of ’81 Deluxe is a different product with a 61-inch-tall cabinet and a different game list. These are format examples, not evidence that every Countercade or Deluxe shares those dimensions or features.
Check whether a game supports alternating turns or simultaneous play and whether the physical panel provides enough controls. A multiplayer title in a menu does not necessarily mean two people can play simultaneously on that cabinet.
Try the position before purchase
Place a cardboard outline on the intended furniture and mark the control height. Sit or stand where you would play and check access without leaning on the support. Allow room for ventilation and cables as instructed. For a shared room, compare the whole setup, including the table or stool, rather than calling the smallest cabinet automatically the smallest installation.
