Pokémon vs Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Sleeves: Card Size, Sleeve Size, and Fit Explained

Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! do not use the same sleeve-size category. Buy against supported card dimensions and the exact sleeve model, then check the resulting deck against your storage.

Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! do not use the same sleeve-size category. Buy against supported card dimensions and the exact sleeve model, then check the resulting deck against your storage. The sleeve’s outside dimensions are not its usable interior.

Read the two size labels

Dragon Shield identifies Pokémon among games using its standard card-size category, listed at 63 × 88 mm. Gamegenic identifies Yu-Gi-Oh! among intended uses for its Japanese Size Prime Sleeves. Its Japanese sleeve is 62 × 89 mm externally and supports cards up to 59 × 86 mm.

For comparison, Gamegenic’s Standard Card Game Value Pack 200 lists 66 × 91 mm sleeves for cards up to 64 × 89 mm. Those figures describe a specific manufacturer’s product; “standard” alone is not a precise fit guarantee across every brand.

Avoid the two common measurement errors

Do not try to fit a 63 mm-wide card into a sleeve whose total outer width is 62 mm. Conversely, a sleeve with generous outer dimensions may be unnecessarily loose for a smaller card. Use the stated supported card size where available; the seams consume space.

If you use an inner sleeve, measure or verify the complete inner-sleeved card. Two products sharing a “standard” label do not establish a double-sleeve combination. Never force the card into a tight sleeve to prove a fit.

Count everything you intend to protect

Separate the playing deck, side or extra deck where applicable, tokens and spare cards. A pack count that equals a main deck may leave nothing for other components. If consistent backs matter to your format, buy matching products deliberately; mixing finish or color can make cards distinguishable.

Finish with the box check

Sleeved cards create a thicker stack. A storage label such as “100 cards” is incomplete unless it specifies sleeve assumptions. Compare the box maker’s tested sleeve combination or usable interior dimensions with your deck. Dimensional compatibility can rule out a purchase; it cannot alone prove comfortable capacity for a tightly packed double-sleeved deck.
