Check product language and tournament region separately. A card you can understand at home may have a different organized-play status, and a familiar set name does not prove identical regional packaging or contents.
Identify what the listing is selling
Record the language, full product name, release and sealed contents. Photos may show a translated or different regional package while a seller title stays generic. Pokémon Support says origin information is available on product wrapping; do not infer it solely from a character illustration or a retailer’s location.
| Question | Evidence needed |
|---|---|
| Can our group use it comfortably? | Readable rules and card text for the players |
| Are contents identical? | Exact regional publisher contents list |
| Can I use it at this event? | Current language policy and format rules |
| Will digital extras work? | The specific code’s platform, region and terms |
Use current event documents
The official Play! Pokémon resources hub links tournament handbooks, card legality and errata. Start from the current hub rather than a saved old PDF. Language permissions can be event- and region-specific; this guide does not present an outdated universal language table. Ask the organizer when your particular combination is unclear.
Keep translation and legality distinct
Being able to translate a card does not itself establish tournament permission. Conversely, a legal language may still make casual learning difficult for a group that cannot read it. Check both questions before buying.
For a gift, ask the recipient which language and organized-play region they use. For mixed-language casual play, agree how everyone will access accurate card text and rules. Preserve the original card identity and use official errata rather than treating an informal translation as authoritative.
