Dartboard Height and Throwing Distance: Plan the Correct Setup

Set dartboard height from the finished floor to the center of the bull, and throwing distance from the board’s face. Confirm the board type and rules first, because the correct horizontal distance can differ.

Do not mix measurement systems or endpoints

The measurements above come from the named manufacturers and are deliberately kept in their published units. The Winmau setup also supplies a diagonal cross-check, but use the horizontal measurement and the exact guide rather than combining rounded conversions from different diagrams. If playing under a league or event rule, verify its current requirements.

A wall-mounted board stands forward of the wall. If the front face is five centimeters from the wall, a 2.37-meter face-to-line setup places the line 2.42 meters from that wall. That is an illustrative arithmetic example; measure your actual board, cabinet and bracket offset.

Install in the right sequence

Choose a clear throwing lane and confirm that the mounting surface and hardware suit the board. Establish the bull height, secure the board according to its instructions, then measure the horizontal distance from a point directly beneath the front face. Mark the line clearly and check the measurement again after mounting accessories.

Do not measure to the back of a thick oche if the relevant instructions specify its front edge. Record the rule source and the chosen edge so future adjustments are consistent.

Allow more room than the scoring geometry

Players need space behind the line to stand and move, and a clear route to collect darts. Keep that lane away from doorways and through-traffic. A cabinet, light or surround can change the physical projection into the room even when the bull remains at the correct height. Recheck the setup after moving the board or changing the floor surface.
