Choose Duet for cooperative word clues, especially when shopping for two people. Players work toward a shared result instead of splitting into rival teams. It is a standalone member of the Codenames family; standard Codenames is not a required purchase.
Which Duet is covered?
This is the English 2025 second edition, Czech Games Edition model CGE00126, EAN 8594156311261. The publisher lists 2+ players and an estimated 15 minutes. This guide follows the current component list, not the older edition’s packaging or key-card count.
Age guidance needs a closer look
The official sources disagree. CGE’s current product factsheet says ages 11+, while the current publisher-supplied box image shows 10+. AG101 has not chosen one as a settled minimum. If you are buying for a child, consider their comfort reading English words, forming clues and discussing possible meanings, and confirm the guidance on the offered box.
An age label would not settle those individual needs even if the sources matched. For a mixed-age pair, the relevant question is whether both people want a word-association activity and can communicate the connections they are considering.
What is included?
The current publisher list contains 200 cards with 400 words, 15 green agent tiles, 11 timer tokens, one assassin tile, 60 double-sided key cards, a rulebook and a stand. The box supplies a complete game. No extra Codenames word deck or subscription is required to play this physical product.
A different choice from team Codenames
Cooperation is the reason to compare Duet with standard Codenames. Standard Codenames is built around rival teams; Duet is the relevant alternative when you want to solve clues together. The publisher’s 2+ label should not be interpreted as a documented hard upper player limit.
Codenames Pictures is another standalone choice, but it changes the targets to pictures while retaining team competition. Changing the card format and changing the relationship between players are separate buying decisions.
Questions before buying
Can an older Duet link identify this edition?
Not reliably by itself. Some older catalog links resolve to the newer second-edition listing. Match the selected model, edition and current components before checkout.
Is a larger number of key cards necessarily the right listing?
No. Component counts vary by edition. The checked second-edition list has 60 double-sided key cards; an older-edition description is a separate reference.
Research basis and date
AG101 checked CGE’s current product page, factsheet, box image and Amazon edition identity on November 2, 2026. This is documentation-based buying guidance, not a hands-on review. The age discrepancy is retained openly rather than presented as resolved.
