Use the official construction rules

Konami’s introduction describes a Main Deck of forty to sixty cards and explains that named Starter Decks have fixed contents, a beginner guide and a playmat. Check the exact product: a starter, structure product, collector box and random pack serve different purposes.

Read the current rulebook and any updates linked by Konami. Main, Extra and Side Deck roles are distinct. A promotional card count on the package does not establish that every card belongs in the Main Deck.

Buying question Evidence to look for
Can I play immediately? Complete deck list and required learning materials
Can a friend also play? A second complete deck or a specifically two-person product
Is it suitable for my event? Current format and Forbidden & Limited List
Are these contents guaranteed? Fixed list versus randomized packs

Match the intended rules environment

Konami provides separate guidance for the main TCG and Speed Duel. Do not combine formats merely because the cards look related. Ask the intended opponent or organizer which rules are in use, then verify that the chosen product belongs to that route.

Keep upgrades deliberate

Play enough introductory games to learn what a deck is trying to do. Make a written list of desired changes and check copy limits and legality before buying. The official Forbidden & Limited List can restrict cards across the relevant deck areas; a product’s original release legality is not a permanent approval.

A useful first purchase gives you a reproducible deck and a way to learn. Surprise packs may be enjoyable for collecting, but they do not guarantee the particular cards your plan requires.
