Table Tennis Conversion Tops: Table Fit, Support, and Storage

A table-tennis conversion top must fit and be supported by the furniture underneath it. Check the top’s full dimensions, the host table’s usable support area and the storage plan for each panel before buying.

Measure the host furniture

Record length, width, height, rail shape and any raised edges or pockets. Then compare the manufacturer’s permitted support dimensions. A topper that extends beyond the host table needs the support arrangement specified by its maker; the fact that it is advertised for pool tables does not establish universal compatibility.

Measurement Why it matters
Installed top dimensions Determines the playing footprint and room needed
Panel dimensions Determines handling and storage space
Panel weight Determines the instructed number of people needed
Support limits Checks whether the existing table is suitable
Net mounting and underside Checks rail interference and furniture protection

One documented conversion-top example

Cornilleau’s In&Out conversion set consists of two 152.5-by-137-centimeter panels, giving an installed 152.5-by-274-centimeter surface and a listed 34 kg net weight. Its product page also states a maximum host-table size of 147 by 269 centimeters and includes felt protection and a net set. These figures belong to that exact product; the maximum limit is not proof that every smaller table provides adequate support.

Ask for clarification where the manufacturer does not give a minimum support area or where your furniture has unusual rails. Do not replace missing support guidance with a guessed overhang percentage.

Account for height and changeover

The host table and topper together determine playing height. Add any pads or support hardware. Plan a place to set both panels while changing modes and follow the manufacturer’s handling instructions. Store them in the specified orientation with protected edges. A conversion top can save floor space, but it still occupies substantial storage and needs the same player clearances as its installed playing surface.
